LOCATION:

The prestigious University of Pisa in cooperation with the Regione Toscana and the City of Viareggio is sponsoring its 57th annual Summer Program of Italian Studies at the Collegio Colombo of Viareggio.

Viareggio is a city famous for a mild climate, miles of beaches, seafood, streets lines with pine trees and friendly people. Viareggio is located between the Tirrenian Sea and the Apuanina Alps.  It is near the International Railway Paris-Rome and close to Lucca, Pisa, Florence, Siena, Cinqueterre, San Gimignano, Arezzo, and Pistoia; cities known around the world for their history, arts and food.

COURSES:

The goal of the school is total immersion in the Italian language and culture. Professors from the University of Pisa will conduct all curses in Italian. Seminars on culture, music and current events are also held in the afternoon and they are optional. Additionally, the students will enjoy a very unique opportunity of Italian life by going shopping to the local open air markets, using local buses and trains, strolling on the passeggiata, ordering gelato or relaxing on the beach.

The courses are held MONDAY-SATURDAY from 0830 to 1230

QUALIFICATIONS:

Anyone at leat 18 year old is eligible for the program. The program is open to anyone interested in learning Italian or advancing their skills in Italian.

DIPLOMA:

A placement test is given on the first day to test your level of skills. At the end of the course if you pass the exam you will be awarded a diploma equal to 60 hours (equal to 1 semester). You can get credits at your university in the USA.

OPTIONAL TRIPS:

The Collegio Colombo organizes trips on Sunday to Florence, Lucca, Pisa, San Gimignano, Siena and other cities.The cost of these excursions needs to be paid at the Collegio Colombo.

HOUSING:

Housing is provided a the Collegio Colombo and at local tourist hotels. Breakfast and dinner is included in the housing package. Contact us for the rates.
